This test checks for Ureaplasma, a type of bacteria that can sometimes contribute to urethritis (irritation of the urinary tube).
What It Checks For
Ureaplasma is a common bacteria that can live in the genital tract without causing problems, but in some people it contributes to symptoms like burning with urination or discharge.
The test detects the bacteria from a urine sample or swab. It is often part of an expanded panel when symptoms are present.
What Your Results Can Mean

| PositiveDetected | Ureaplasma is present. Whether it needs treatment depends on your symptoms, since it can also be a harmless part of the normal flora. |
