Understanding Trichomonas Testing
This test screens for trichomoniasis (“trich”), a common sexually transmitted infection caused by a tiny parasite. It is easily cured with medication.
What It Checks For
Trichomoniasis is caused by a parasite spread through sexual contact. It can cause itching, discharge, or irritation, but many people have no symptoms at all.
The test uses a sensitive method on a urine sample or swab to detect the parasite’s genetic material.
What Your Results Can Mean

| NegativeNot Detected | No trichomonas infection was found. |
| PositiveInfection Detected | Confirms trichomoniasis, which is cured with a course of antibiotics. Partners should be treated too to prevent reinfection. |
What’s Most Important to Know
Because trich often causes no symptoms, testing is the only way to know for sure. It is easily treated once found.
