Understanding Your Full Testosterone Panel

This more detailed panel measures free, bioavailable, and total testosterone. It gives a fuller picture than total testosterone alone, especially when results are borderline.

What It Measures

Not all testosterone in your blood is usable. Much of it is bound to proteins and inactive. This panel separates the active from the inactive fractions.

Component What It Means
Total Testosterone The overall amount of testosterone in your blood, both active and bound.
Free Testosterone The small fraction that is unbound and fully active. Often the most telling value when symptoms and total testosterone disagree.
Bioavailable Testosterone The free testosterone plus the loosely bound portion your tissues can still use.

What’s Most Important to Know

This panel is most useful when total testosterone is borderline or when protein levels (which change with age, weight, and other conditions) may be skewing the total.

As always, we interpret these numbers alongside your symptoms and repeat testing when needed. Dr. Mui will explain what your results mean for you.
